FAQ

My wick smokes when I put it out. Why?

All Scents of Soy candles are made with 100% natural cotton wicks. These wicks tend to smoke a little when you put them out, due to the cotton content. Gently dipping the smoking wick into the wax pool and pulling it back out, will extinguish the smoke. This can be done with a candle snuffer or other long object. We only use LEAD-FREE wicks!

Why are some of the candles more bumpy than others on top?

Upon cooling, your soy candle may appear "bumpy" on the top. This is completely normal and a natural characteristic of all soy wax. Each is individually hand poured making each one unique.

What is paraffin wax?

Paraffin wax is a Petroleum-based by-product of gasoline & kerosene refining. Paraffin wax is used for many applications including candle making.

Should I burn paraffin wax candles?

Paraffin wax candles contain petroleum, which can fill the air with carcinogens and soot. The toxins and carcinogens that are released into the air while burning produces unhealthy indoor air quality. Paraffin wax candles also release high quantities of black soot, which can settle on unwanted areas and damage home interiors.

Is melted soy wax as hot as regular paraffin candle wax?

NO, soy wax burns much cooler which makes it safe around children and pets. You can even touch the melted wax and rub it onto your hands leaving your skin soft and smooth!!! Be sure to put the flame out first!

So, just how do you get wax from a bean?

A 60 pound bushel is the traditional farm measure. When soybeans are processed they are crushed and pressed to separate the soybean meal from the oil. In each 60 pound bushel, 49 pounds of soymeal and 11 pounds of oil are produced. The 49 pounds of soymeal is where the protein content of the soybean is, and soymeal is processed into animal feeds and foods for human consumption The 11 pounds of soybean oil out of each 60 pound bushel is taken and made into soybean wax by a process of partial hydrogenation of the soybean oil and addition of natural ingredients.

When I burn my candle why is there some wax left on the sides of the jars?

This happens when you don’t burn the candle long enough. We recommend you burn a candle for at least 1 hour for each inch in diameter your candle is.
